Lake Chatuge in the Fall

Come and Enjoy Lake Chatuge in the Fall Sept 23rd – 25th

Let’s all come and play and cruise together  September 23rd  through the 25th  at Lake Chatuge  in Hiawassee, Ga.   Enjoy a weekend of water sports and runabouts.

Update – We are so looking forward to our upcoming trip to Lake Chatuge. Most people will be arriving Thursday and Friday, the 22nd and 23rd.  There is a planned group dinner at a restaurant called the Library on Friday night. We have a room reserved and you can order off the menu or there is a seafood buffet.

We will have a low country boil on Saturday night with the Jordan’s doing the cooking. The per person cost of this will be determined by the cost of the seafood. Probably in the $10 per person range.

We plan to rent a pontoon boat for part of Saturday and again the individual cost of this will depend on the number of participants.

There are no other planned events and we basically hope everyone will just relax and have a good time.

Chestatee River Poker Run

August 27th – Fill up the tank and lower your antennas because on August 27th the ASPS is headed up the Chestatee! We will also endeavor to use a unique format for our Chestatee exploration… a first ever ASPS Poker Run! While this will require a tad more coordination, it should be a lot of fun as well. We will rendezvous where the Chestatee and the Chattahoochee join just North of Brown’s Bridge at 12 noon (River Marker 2C). Be timely because the first card draw will be at the rendezvous point!!! From there, we will progress up the Chestatee passing under the Keith Bridge Road (GA 306) Bridge that has just 14’ of clearance at a Lake Level of 1071’. This may mean that you need to buy a new (smaller) boat for the trip, or hitch a ride with one of the smaller vessels in the squadron, so plan ahead!!

We will draw additional cards along the way (I need a few volunteers for this) and leap frog our way up the river to a raft-up point near the head waters of the Chestatee. If you haven’t been up this river before, or it’s been awhile, you are missing something… it is beautiful!

Raft-up rules are the standard fare – bring something to share and be prepared to have fun!

Keep an eye on the DR for more details, but I hope to see as many of you as possible on this outing, we want to test the format for what could be a much larger event in the future!

Silent Auction – Help Needed!

This is really a rewarding job (and a terrific way to earn Merit Marks). Tim Tyson is sending out a plea for volunteers to help in the gathering-of-items process. Business owners are all too happy to donate, as it can easily create new regulars.  Items can be collected from your favorite places where you do business. There is no need to be hesitant about asking them to help out.

If you have an item you think might be of use in our auction, just let us know. The one caveat is that we don’t want it to become a garage sale. Many folks use this as a last minute Christmas shopping venue.

Help is desperately needed. This auction has, over the past 8 years, proven to be a great help to our budget. But the Waterlog is a very time consuming job, and there aren’t enough hours in the day to do both that AND a one man silent auction. Please contact Tim and earn a special place in his heart.
