PWC Rodeo
August 6th
Calling all PWC riders or PWC rider “wannabes”. The Atlanta Sail and Power Squadron will sponsor a PWC Rodeo on August 6, 2011. As one of the Nation’s premier boating safety and education organizations, the Power Squadron is sponsoring an event which is dedicated toward the education and safe riding of Personal Watercraft. This event is open to all USPS members and invited guests, all University Yacht Club members and their invited guests and all Coast Guard Auxiliary members and their invited guests. This event is dedicated to teaching basic safe PWC riding skills and having riders demonstrate safe PWC handing and coordination abilities. Although “newer” PWC riders will gain the greatest benefit from this type event, “experienced” PWC riders will also be able to sharpen their PWC riding and handling skills.
The event will begin in the cove just south of the University Yacht Club at 10:00 on August 6, 2011. Riders will begin with a safety inspection of their craft by USPS vessel safety examiners between 9:00 and 10:00 am. After passing the vessel safety exam, riders will be directed to one of three safe skills demonstration areas. The three skills are: Slalom, Fender Retrieval and Mount/dismount. Once a rider has demonstrated they can safely maneuver their Personal Watercraft through these three stations, a “PWC Safe Rider” certificate will be issued.
